Editors Choice: Top Picks For 2018!
Editor's tend to be an enthusiastic bunch when it comes to upcoming releases, as we found out when we put out a call on Twitter asking what they were excited about book-wise in 2018...
They get to read so many great stories before the books make it to the marketplace and, as PHS Editor, Trish Wylie, discovered when she asked one simple little question on Twitter, ask a Romance editor to choose a handful of upcoming releases and it's a case of be careful what you wish for! Start saving your pennies now folks, looks like we're going to be buying a lot of books next year...
Entangled Publishing - Heidi Shoham
Heidi kicked things off on Twitter by asking one simple question in reply to ours: How much time do you have? (A warning which would prove prophetic as the day continued)
Thankfully, she then made it easy for us by adding: I'm excited about our new August imprint! I've contracted some awesome books for it! And continued with: I have some fantastic shifters from @njwaltersauthor in 2018! And I signed debut author @elsiedavishea with a rancher hero for the Bliss imprint.
Carina Press - Deborah Nemeth
Deb brought us a list that sounds equally fabulous!
A Grave Search by Wendy Roberts, A Conspiracy of Whispers by Ada Harper, Making Up by Lucy Parker, Hard Line by Sidney Bell, Squared Away by Annabeth Albert, Murder Takes the High Road by Josh Lanyon... And the first one is out next month so we'll be pre-ordering that!
Entangled Publishing - Tera Cuskaden
Oh man. I'm so excited for readers to get their hands on the final book in @Juliette__Cross's vampire series: The Emerald Lily is SO SO SO good. Tera tells us before adding: There are some amazing books coming out by @DorothyFShaw, @jezzdesilva, @JennaRyanAuthor, @AuthorRyaStone, @HeatherMcCorkle, @HVLong, @LexiPost... These are all awesome authors to check out! And I'm totally going to miss people. But man, so much good stuff is on the schedule both personally and for @ScorchedBooks. Toxic Desire by @LovettRomance is SO HOT, y'all.
With 84 new Series books released every month, it was always gonna be hard for the HQN/Mills & Boon eds to pick just a few! So, troopers that they are, they shared the love around the office to narrow it down some and then emailed us their list...
Mills & Boon Historical - Bryony Green
For a really fun sexy Regency read which is a little bit different as it features a Russian Prince hero Compromised By The Prince's Touch by Bronwyn Scott is out in January 2018.
And if you like your Regencies full of charm and wit with a helping of adventure, check out A Kiss Away From Scandal by Christine Merrill in June 2018.
Mills & Boon True Love - Carly Byrne
Set on an amazing (fictional) Mediterranean island that you will want to escape to is this Wedding Island duet! Two really glamorous, contemporary sweep-me-away stories, but packed full of emotion with really relatable characters, the heroines in particular. Baby Surprise for the Spanish Billionaire by Jessica Gilmore (Mar 18) and Island Fling to Forever by Sophie Pembroke (Apr 18)
Two more beautiful stories, as recommended by NY Senior Editor, Gail Chasan are A Proposal For The Officer by Christy Jeffries (March-18) , which features a diabetic officer heroine whose newly diagnosed condition threatens her career but brings her closer to the man who knows her secret. And The Ballerina’s Secret by Teri Wilson (June-18), which focuses on a deaf dancer who may or may be not regaining her hearing, and the rugged bitter piano player who she finds herself inexplicably drawn to—and vice versa.
Mills & Boon Medical Romance - Sheila Hodgson
We recommend the Hot Greek Docs quartet from Annie O’Neil, Tina Beckett, Amalie Berlin and Amy Ruttan, for its sexy docs, gorgeous Greek Island setting and literally earthquaking drama! Hot Greek Docs Theo, Deakin, Ares and Christos have vowed never to surrender their freedom by putting a ring on it. Who’d have thought it would literally take an earthquake to change their minds?
One Night with Dr. Nikolaides by Annie O’Neil (June 2018), Tempted by Dr. Patera by Tina Beckett (June 2018), Back in Dr. Xenakis’ Arms by Amalie Berlin (July 2018), and A Date with Dr. Moustakas by Amy Ruttan (July 2018) Watch out for them!
Mills & Boon Modern - Laurie Prescott
A Virgin for a Vow by Melanie Milburne (Jan 18). We’re super excited about this one as it’s the author’s 75th book! Former Modern Tempted author Kelly Hunter is making her debut in the Modern series with a fabulous linked quartet, ‘Claimed by a King’. Book 1, Shock Heir for the Crown Prince and book 2, Convenient Bride for the King are available in Feb and March. And look out for books 3 and 4 in 2019! In May 18, we have The Innocent's One-Night Confession by Sara Craven. Sadly Sara passed away recently, but this, her final, wonderful contribution to the Modern series is available in May 18.
Mills & Boon Dare - Kathleen Scheibling
I’m excited about Off Limits by Clare Connelly (Feb 18) for our new line, Dare! It’s so hot it scorched my fingers! There’s such a beautiful, powerfully emotional connection between the Hero & Heroine and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I loved this book!
Mills & Boon Desire - Stacy Boyd
The Rancher’s Baby by Maisey Yates (Jan 18). Maisey creates the angsty-est, sexiest friends-to-lovers story I’ve ever read, which also happens to kick off a brand new Texas Cattleman’s Club continuity. The Baby Claim by Catherine Mann (Feb 18). Cathy has taken romance to a new level with this one! The sensual tension pops from page one of this reunion romance/rivals-to-lovers story, filled with interesting characters and surprising plot twists. Lone Star Lovers by Jessica Lemmon (Mar 18). I love this book! It’s so fun and sexy with its hot, southern gentleman hero, a heroine so real I wanted to take her out for lunch and a cast of characters I can’t wait to know more about as the trilogy continues. Savannah’s Secrets by Reese Ryan (Mar 18). So sizzling, so amazing, so juicy!! I love the heroine, who has such strong emotional motivations that she’s sympathetic even as she’s making hard choices. And the hero is the perfect combination of alpha strength and nice guy charm. Such a great read!
Mills & Boon Heroes - Denise Zaza
Cease Fire by Janie Crouch (Jun-18) is an incredibly moving story. It is an ‘opposite worlds’ story with a former exotic dancer turned business owner, heroine, and a wealthy hero who needs to protect her – especially now she is pregnant with his child!
Safe At Hawk's Landing by Rita Herron (Jan 18). Another moving story about trauma and how we heal- full of drama and tension! When a masked gunman enters a classroom for at-risk girls, kidnaps the girls and leaves the teacher for dead the race is on! The teacher’s injuries cause her to go temporarily blind but she insists on helping the FBI locate the children and she works with one sexy agent who helps her heal—physically and emotionally.
Then, the folks at Tule joined the party with lots of pretty covers...
And if that wasn't enough, back at Twitter, the recommendations kept coming!
Entangled Publishing - Candace Havens
Cinderella and the Geek by @christinaPh_ is one of my favorite books I've ever edited. There are some great ones coming from @DianeAlberts and Amanda Ashby. SO many great books for 2018!
Entangled Publishing - Heather Howland
I’m *obsessed* with @AOwenBooks’s two dragon shifter series that release end of 2018/beg of 2019. Loving my romcoms by @HaysonManning and @SarahBallance, & sexy military cowboys from @Donna_Michaels. Crazy good YA thrillers by @MerrieDestefano and @AuthorVScott.
And we're not even counting all the recommendations from readers! Yes, the moral of this story, dear PHS friends is two-fold... 1/ Editors LOVE talking books and 2/ There obviously isn't going to be enough time for everything we want to read in 2018. A HUGE THANKS to all the lovely editors here for their contribution and their hard work throughout the year.
