The PHS Fashion Awards 2018
It's time for the Second Annual PHS Fashion Awards for RWA! Who rocked Denver in style? The PHS's girl on the ground, Teri Wilson, is here to present all our winners!
Last year, I volunteered to write an article for the PHS about my favorite fashion sightings at the Romance Writers of America conference. I loved it because it gave me a great excuse to make new friends and chat with writers I didn’t know about their cute outfits. Also, I just love fashion.
Apparently, I’m not the only one because the PHS fashion awards turned out to be quite popular. So, SURPRISE, here I am again, bestowing awards on the best and brightest style makers who turned up in Denver, Colorado, last month looking particularly amazing.
Let the presentation ceremony begin!
Best Handbag Award
Hands down, this award goes to RWA Honor Roll member and first-timer Gail Carriger for her teapot bag. Eat your heart out, Mrs. Potts. I don’t even know where to start with this… The gloves, the bag, the glasses. It’s all perfection.
Best Sleeves Award
You know how sometimes at conferences, you keep running into the same person over and over again, and she becomes your “conference person” for the year? This year, my conference person was Montlake author and RWA board member Renee Ryan. I love Renee, so this made me very happy. Also, I’m head over heals for her gorgeous polka dot blouse with its exaggerated, flowy sleeves. She looks like a romance-writing Flamenco dancer. Cue music!
Best Cute Summer Dress Award
I’ll be honest—Denver was hotter than I thought it would be. At times I was melting, but RITA nominee Scarlet Wilson Cath Kidston’s Popsicle dress had me dreaming of snow cones and ice cream. So, so cute. (Can I borrow it, Scarlet?)
Best Necklace Award
I walked into the Tule Publishing Tea at Denver’s posh historic hotel, The Brown Palace, and even though I was surrounded by petit fours, champagne and beautiful china, the first thing that caught my eye was Tule author Lenora Worth’s Betsy Johnson necklace. Look at it! Then look at it again. Tucked among all the sparkle are hidden hearts and candies. It was the perfect accessory for the occasion.
Best Cocktail Dress Award
Who doesn’t love a good royal moment? Stiletto Contest finalist Makenna Lee gave us just that when she channeled Grace Kelly at the RITA Awards. SHE’S EVEN WEARING A TIARA.
Best Annie Hall Moment Award
La di da, la di da. Move over Diane Keaton. RITA finalist Jeanne M. Dickson rocked a menswear-inspired look to the literacy signing on Saturday that was beyond perfect.
Best Unicorn Hair Award
There were so many gorgeous pastel highlights at the conference this year that it was almost impossible to choose a favorite. But bestselling hybrid author Nicole Flockton’s flower crown made her a stand-out. So pretty!
Best Writer-Inspired Look Award
Are those typewriters on Sofie Darling’s adorable day dress? Why yes, yes they are!
Sweetest Day Dress Award
Bless my cupcake-loving heart, this award goes to author Sharae Allen’s to-die-for dessert dress. I love it even more than I love buttercream.
Best RITA Awards Ensemble Award
This award goes to RITA nominee Jess Russell for her completely gorgeous organza creation that featured covers of all the RITA-nominated books! Seriously, zoom in and take a closer look. Even more amazing…Jess made this gown herself. Bow down.
Best On-Brand Look Award
Debut author Laura Von Holt hosts a mermaid podcast and writes mermaid romance. She’s basically a mermaid herself, so of course she rocked a colorful mermaid dress in Denver this year. And we loved it!
The Bookish Bombshell Award
Last year I called Joanne Grant, Editorial Director of Harlequin Series, an RWA fashion icon and this year, she looked even more gorgeous than in years past. My favorite Joanne Grant look in Denver was her bookish bombshell pencil skirt/cardigan/glasses combo she wore to the Harlequin signing. I think I’m still swooning.
Teri's latest release, The Bachelor's Baby Surprise, is out now. For more information about her and her writing check out her website, or follow her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
